The Soul of India provides a thoughtful and leisurely-paced journey looking at some of the continent’s most iconic sights and experiences. This really is a snapshot of everything that India has to offer – the tigers, the Taj Mahal, Rajasthan and Varanasi.

The journey starts with three nights in the buzzing city of Delhi, then moving south to Agra, for a spectacular stay at the Amarvilas, where you will experience the Taj at both sunrise and sunset.

Next on the itinerary, a peaceful search for the elusive tigers – perhaps the most splendous animal on Earth – in Ranthambore National Park before wandering the glamorous Pink City of Jaipur. Then become an eye-witness to the intense spiritual devotion in Varanasi – the most supremely potent pilgrimage sight on earth.

This action-packed journey draws to a close in the super city of Mumbai, a distillation of India’s incredible energy and ambition.

You begin with a jam-packed couple of days in the capital, Delhi.  Days are spent exploring the twisting maze of streets with your Tour Director and visiting India’s largest mosque and spiritual shrines. This vibrant city is full of amazing history and culture. Your base here will be the wonderful five star Taj Mahal Hotel.

You will take a morning drive to Agra, home of the Taj Mahal. You will be lucky enough to visit this majestic ivory-white marble mausoleum both at sunrise and sunset (and even your bedroom at the Oberoi Amarvilas where you stay overlooks it). Agra is also home to the UNESCO World Hertiage Site of Agra Fort, where you will spend an afternoon becoming acquainted with its fascinating history.

Then its tiger time.  You will be staying at the exquisite Oberoi Vanyavilas (named India’s top luxury hotel in Travel Advisor’s 2015 Traveller’s Choice Award). You will spend the days cruising the park under the guidance of your Tour Director and a local guide, who are incredibly talented at sensing where these notoriously elusive beasts are hiding.

The Pink City of Jaipur is next; here you will spend three nights at the Rambagh Palace. A trip to the Amber Fort, a royal palace built from pale yellow and pink sandstone and marble, is a must. Jaipur is the perfect place to explore on foot, in the air and also on elephant-back – a luxury on which you can embark on all three, with an early hot air balloon ride over the city & an elephant-back ride out into the countryside.

Your next destination is Varanasi, a short flight from Jaipur (via Delhi). Varanasi is the spiritual capital of Hindu India, it is the earth’s most formidable pilgrimage site. Your two days here will be based at the Gateway Ganges. In Varanasi you will spend time cruising down the Ganges, watching the amazing rituals and religious ceremonies. A truly unique Indian experience.

Finally, you fly on to Mumbai for some more city exploring to round off your trip. Activities here include bargaining at Chor Bazaar, or the Thieves Market, where everything and anything is available; you’ll also have a chance to roam the former Prince of Wales Museum. Your five star accommodation here is the exquisite Oberoi Mumbai – the perfect place to end your Indian adventure.
