Scientific Name: Panthera Leo

Family: Panthera Leo Leo (African Lion) & Panthera Leo persica (Asiatic Lion)

Population: 20,000 Lions remain and they are highly vulnerable to extinction

Size: Male African Lions can grow up to 2m long and weigh up to 200kg and Asiastic lions can be bigger, up to 2.8m long and 220kg.

Diet: Carnivorous- They eat large animals and the females are the main hunters for the pride. They can kill animals which weigh up to 1,000 lbs and usually hunt at night.

Where do they live?: African Lions can be found in Sub-Saharan AfricaAsiatic Lions can now only be found in the Gir Forest National Park in Gujarat, western India.

Interesting Facts: Lions can run as fast as 80km/h, lions are the most social of all big cats and you can tell the age of a Male Lion by the darkness of his mane, the darker the mane the older the lion.
